Sobada & Closing with Chumbes (The Closing of the Bones)

The Closing is a ceremonial ritual of integration and containment for any woman moving through a life transition. Although traditionally offered after postpartum, this ritual is not only for new mothers. It is for any moment when the body and heart need to close, integrate, and return to center.

Using rebozos and chumbes — traditional woven cloths used to wrap and support the body — we guide a deeply grounding physical, emotional, and energetic process.

How We Do It: The ritual unfolds in three main stages:

The ritual unfolds in three main stages:

1. Herbal Steam Preparation

We begin by preparing the body with a vaginal herbal steam using specific plants that support release and letting go. In postpartum, this practice gently supports the uterus’ natural cleansing process.

2. The Sobada (Abdominal & Full Body Massage)

I offer a deep, intentional sobada, with special focus on the abdomen and pelvis.
We assess the position of the uterus and, if it has shifted, I gently support it back into alignment. This work allows the body to reorganize, release stored tension, and come back into balance.

3. The Closing with Chumbes

The body is then rhythmically wrapped and held at different points — feet, legs, pelvis, abdomen, chest, and head.Through intentional containment, the bones are symbolically sealed, the pelvis is supported, and the spirit is invited to fully return to the body. It is a profound moment of grounding, integration, and renewal.

More About This Lineage

I learned this ritual in Palomino from my teacher, the midwife Ivonne Zoraida Restrepo.

She was the first woman to sobar me, close me, and reposition my uterus. From that deeply transformative experience, I now carry this postpartum and life-transition medicine to support other women in their own processes of closure and integration. If you feel called to receive this ritual, I welcome you to reach out.

when to make a closed and rubbed

From 40 days postpartum onward

  • After pregnancy loss or abortion

  • During grief or relationship transitions

  • In times of identity shifts

  • When closing an important chapter of life

This is a ritual of love, remembrance, and gentle strength.
I deeply believe every woman deserves to be held, sobada, and closed at least once in her life.

Placenta Medicine Services

The placenta is a sacred organ that nourishes, protects, and sustains life. It was our first home. We could have been placenta, and placenta could have been us. Honoring it after birth is a way of consciously closing the cycle with gratitude and reverence.

For centuries, cultures around the world have honored the placenta as a sacred organ — a symbol of connection, nourishment, and life. Placenta medicine transforms your placenta into natural remedies (capsules, oils, tinctures) to support your body, energy, and emotions after birth. It is a simple, profound way to return what was given, a ritual of care for yourself and the new life you have brought into the world. Giving yourself permission to take this medicine is a return to wholeness, an act of love for your body and for the new life that has begun.

How the Process Works

1. First Contact

You contact me directly at info@meeryian.com.

It is important that you live near Konstanz, as this work requires in-person presence before and during birth.

2. In-Person Meeting

We will meet before your birth to connect and feel whether we are aligned to work together.

In this meeting:

  • I will explain all the possibilities of placenta medicine.

  • We will look at your specific case so you can make an informed and conscious decision.

  • We will also speak openly about potential risks.

There are situations where consuming the placenta is not recommended. In those cases, the medicine may take the form of:

  • Placenta burial ritual

  • Placenta reading

  • Symbolic offerings instead of ingestion

Everything is approached with care, clarity, and respect for your health.

3. The Three Offerings

If we decide to work together, I focus on three main offerings:

  • Placenta Reading

  • Placenta Medicine (tincture, oil, capsules, print, amulets, etc.)

  • Placenta Burial Ritual & Cord Ceremony

All details are carefully explained during our meeting.

4. The Day of Birth

On the day of birth, I will be present to receive the placenta with respect and proper care.

That same day, we will do the placenta reading.

You can then choose whether:

  • I prepare the medicine in your home (which I ideally recommend), or

  • I take the placenta to prepare it and return the medicine to you.

The preparation process takes several hours.

The placenta will be preserved properly so that, generally after the forty days postpartum, we can gather again for the placenta burial ritual.

All details, timing, and practical aspects are discussed thoroughly in our initial meeting

The full Placenta Medicine process, including all three offerings, has a total cost of: 300 € .
